The Fieldhouse, at the left, where the bench is located, and the front of the high school at the right.
Job well done
Rose Mary Pagley Flanagan’s drive for donating something from the Class of 52 to our old “new” high school is now a reality.
A bench with an engraving that says "Donated by Class of 1952" now sits on the left side of the lobby in the New Castle High School Fieldhouse.
The drive for the bench also has resulted in a $1,000 scholarship because of the overwhelming support for the project.
This is how the scholarship came about: Cost for the bench was $1,500 and $1,920 was pledged by 34. The Reunion Committee then decided to take more than $500 from class funds and add it to the excess money to present a one-time $1000 scholarship to a student pursuing a degree in academic education. It will be presented on May 30 at Senior Recognition Day.
Both the bench and the scholarship are a testament to the generosity of the Class of 52.
